The foodie in me.

So anyone who knows me, knows that I love food. I'd like to share some of my tasteful and sometimes not so tasteful Indonesian experiences with you. First of all, be prepared to get less menus per head and waiters hovering as soon as they give you them. Oh the pressure! Try it in another language... where's my Google translate? Oh the pressure! OK ayam. Ayam is chicken. Fab! I'll have some kaki ayam. Terima kasi.

...Mmmm that smells good. Wait! Ayam is chicken, yes. Kaki? Feet? Hell NO!

Spot the kaki ayam.

I wonder how they work out which table to send the dishes to.

Waiter 1: "Which table?"  Waiter 2: " The bule one". Bule= foreigner.

Ok lets head to the market. There is nothing better than the hustle and bustle of a traditional market with plenty of colour and local delicacies to feast your eyes on. The Palembang market offers no less!
Meat, fish and poultry...not always dead by the way, so it's not for the squeamish.

These chicken's obviously didn't make it as the cast of Chicken Run.

These ones are still planning their escape.

Sea cucumber anyone? Don't be fooled it isn't a cucumber as we know it. No really, it isn't.

Durian- Marmite of the fruit world.

Moon cakes for Chinese new year.

Blurry shrimps, they seem to have a very distinctive sea taste over here.

Other foodie moments along the way.

Strawberry cheesecake? Don't mind if I do. Does it taste like strawberry cheesecake? Na'ah.

The slippery slope. Sugar? OK. Condensed milk? OK. Coconut? OK. Kidney beans? Oookay? Es teler is an interesting mix.

A fraction of the Eid ul adha feast.

Amy, my eating buddy.

Amy : "I can't wait for the day I look at the menu and understand what I'm ordering".
I don't think she wanted rice noodles!

My Eid ul adha meal at an Indonesian family's house in Pangkal Pinang. Thanks Dustin !
Rendang beef, pineapple curry and rice ketupa.

A photo of potatoes taken by accident. Why let a good photo go to waste?

Chicken  teriyaki in Bangka.

Some like it hot. Flame grilled chicken-literally.

Ahhh...delightful Megan. A reminder that sometimes home comforts are necessary.

Tempeh crackers, fall off the bone chicken and rice wrapped in a banana leaf. Life is good.

Tomatoes or eggs?

Never before have I seen the strangest things combined. Does this mean it's good for you?

Carry case popcorn and a not so edited, edited showing of Ted. However, the seats feel better than lounging on your own sofa.

Buncih dua rasa or green beans cooked in two different ways. Definitely one of my favourites.

Pempek, fishcakes combined with tapioca

Pempek plus dips.

Martabak in the making a.k.a  heart attack on a plate.

Martabak-selling point is it's Indian. Really? Enjoy with butter and more butter, cheese, peanuts, sweet corn, all of the above, as you please.

Rice steamed in banana leaves.

Kue pepe. Even the cakes taste healthy. Imagine overcooked pasta with very little taste.

What could this little surprise be?

Mmm mmm some yummy satay chicken!

...they were eggs by the way.

So long for now dear pals...i'm sure I will have more food updates for you.
